چکیده

As the information available to lay users through autonomous data sources continues to increase, mediators become important to ensure that the wealth of information available is tapped effectively. A key challenge that these information mediators need to handle is the varying levels of incompleteness in the underlying databases in terms of missing attribute values. Existing approaches such as Query Processing over Incomplete Autonomous Databases (QPIAD) aim to mine and use Approximate Functional Dependencies (AFDs) to predict and retrieve relevant incomplete tuples. These approaches make independence assumptions about missing values—which critically hobbles their performance when there are tuples containing missing values for multiple correlated attributes. In this thesis, I present a principled probabilistic alternative that views an incomplete tuple as defining a distribution over the complete tuples that it stands for. I learn this distribution in terms of Bayes networks. My approach involves mining/”learning” Bayes networks from a sample of the database, and using it do both imputation (predict a missing value) and query rewriting (retrieve relevant results with incompleteness on the query-constrained attributes, when the data sources are autonomous). I present empirical studies to demonstrate that (i) at higher levels of incompleteness, when multiple attribute values are missing, Bayes networks do provide a significantly higher classification accuracy and (ii) the relevant possible answers retrieved by the queries reformulated using Bayes networks provide higher precision and recall than AFDs while keeping query processing costs manageable.

Query Processing over Incomplete Autonomous Databases

Incompleteness due to missing attribute values (aka “null values”) is very common in autonomous web databases, on which user accesses are usually supported through mediators. Traditional query processing techniques that focus on the strict soundness of answer tuples often ignore tuples with critical missing attributes, even if they wind up being relevant to a user query. Ideally we would like t...

Scheduling of Multiple Autonomous Guided Vehicles for an Assembly Line Using Minimum Cost Network Flow

This paper proposed a parallel automated assembly line system to produce multiple products having multiple autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs). Several assembly lines are configured to produce multiple products in which the technologies of machines are shared among the assembly lines when required. The transportation between the stations in an assembly line (intra assembly line) and among station...

انتخاب مناسب‌ترین زبان پرس‌وجو برای استفاده از فرا‌‌پیوندها جهت استخراج داده‌ها در حالت دیتالوگ در سامانه پایگاه داده استنتاجی DES

Deductive Database systems are designed based on a logical data model. Data (as opposed to Relational Databases Management System (RDBMS) in which data stored in tables) are saved as facts in a Deductive Database system. Datalog Educational System (DES) is a Deductive Database system that Datalog mode is the default mode in this system. It can extract data to use outer joins with three query la...

Relational Databases Query Optimization using Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm

Optimizing the database queries is one of hard research problems. Exhaustive search techniques like dynamic programming is suitable for queries with a few relations, but by increasing the number of relations in query, much use of memory and processing is needed, and the use of these methods is not suitable, so we have to use random and evolutionary methods. The use of evolutionary methods, beca...
